Today in NYR History March 19:



1972: Ed Giacomin becomes the first Rangers goalie to record two assists in a game during a 5-3 win over Toronto at Madison Square Garden.




1993: Mike Gartner becomes the first Ranger to score 40 goals in three consecutive seasons by scoring a goal in an 8-1 win over San Jose.




2001: Mark Messier records a goal and an assist to pass Marcel Dionne for third on the NHL's all-time scoring list in a 6-3 win over Washington at MSG.



2007: Jaromir Jagr becomes the first player in NHL history to score 25 or more goals in each of his first 16 seasons. Jagr's milestone goal comes with 33.8 seconds remaining in the third period and gives the Rangers a 2-1 win against the Penguins at Madison Square Garden.
