RANGERS RETURN HOME TO HOST JETS


LOOK TO SWEEP SEASON SERIES

Back home after a three game Western Canada road trip sweep the Rangers look to finish off another sweep with a win tonight at Madison Square Garden this time a season sweep over Winnipeg.

Tonight is the second of two meetings between the Rangers and Winnipeg. In the first contest prior to the Rangers eight game losing streak the Rangers defeated the Jets 3-1 back on February 11 in Winnipeg 3-1. A first period goal by Mats Zuccarello and third period tallies by Jimmy Vesey and Michael Grabner bolstered the Rangers offense while Henrik Lundqvist earned the win and first star of the game with 38 saves.

Coming in on a three game win streak which saw newcomers Vladislav Namestnikov and Ryan Spooner make significant strides, Namestnikov with a goal and an assist and Spooner with a goal and 6 assists. Kevin Hayes continued exceptional play with 3 goals on the road trip.

With the season getting down to brass taxes the Rangers now sit just five points out of the last wild card spot with 66 points. Columbus currently sits in the 8th and final spot with 71 points.

The Rangers did not hold practice on Monday so expect the lineup to remain the same as Saturday’s win in Edmonton with the exception of hzenrik Lundqvist returning to tend the Rangers net.

Winnipeg sits in 2nd place in the Central comes in winning four of their last five games including a 3-2 win over Carolina on Sunday. Blake Wheeler leads the team with 74 points, Patrik Laine leads in goals with 35.
