Rangers Acquire Nicklas Jensen From Vanocuver

Not long after head coach Alain Vigneault said Friday that forward Emerson Etem would be sent on a minor league conditioning stint by the Rangers this weekend, the team instead traded Etem to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for former first round pick Nicklas Jensen and a sixth round selection in the 2017 National Hockey League draft.

A native of Denmark, the 22 year-old Jensen was the 29th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft. He has appeared in 24 NHL games over the previous three seasons, scoring three goals, adding three assists, and totaling six points to go along with ten penalty minutes in those contests.

Jensen, who has represented his country in numerous tournaments including the World Championships and World Junior Championships, played two seasons of major junior hockey with the Oshawa Generals, scoring 54 goals in those two seasons combined. He scored a professional career-high 15 goals with the Utica Comets of the AHL two years ago, and compiled a career-best 28 points (14-14-28) in Utica last season.

So far this season the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Jensen has four goals and 12 points, along with 20 penalty minutes, for the Comets in 27 games. He faced the Rangers AHL affiliate in Hartford four times this season and impressed with some skilled play that included a gorgeous shootout goal against the Wolf Pack.

Etem was playing in his first season with the Rangers after being acquired from the Anaheim Ducks this past summer. In 19 games with the Rangers he registered three assists.
