NYR TODAY MONDAY 2/22

RANGERS VS RED WINGS POST GAME REVIEW
@RNYRF Staff Report
Rangers defeat Red Wings 1-0 in overtime
After 60 minutes of scoreless play it took Kevin Klein only 1:59 to score the overtime goal and win the contest vs Detroit for the Rangers. Klein scored the game's lone goal on a 2 on 1 rush started on an outlet pass by Chris Kreider. Alongside Kevin Hayes, Klein rushed into the Detroit zone and finally put one past Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard spoiling his bid for a shutout victory on the Rangers 30th shot of the game.

The Rangers were backstopped to victory by Henrik Lundqvist who earned his 4th shutout of the season stopping all 22 shots on goal by Detroit. The Rangers win was their 7th in the last 9 games (7-1-1). Jesper Fast was robbed by Detroit's Howard twice last night., once on a penalty shot that was awarded and with 5:25 left in regulation on a beautiful right pad save by the Detroit Goalie.

Earlier in the game Kevin Hayes scored what appeared to be the go ahead goal for the Rangers but after a coach's challenge by Detroit the referee overturned the goal claiming Jimmy Howard was interfered with by Oscar Lindberg prior to the goal being scored. The NHL sited rule #'s 78.7, 69.1 & 69.3 for the reason of the goal being disallowed.

In other NYR Notes: Captain Ryan McDonagh was scratched for the contest due to a a jaw injury and neck spasms resulting from an elbow he received vs Toronto by Leo Komarov. Rookie defenseman Dylan McIlrath replaced McDonagh in the Rangers lineup. Marek Hrivik who was called up earlier in the day to replace demoted Daniel Paille made his NY Rangers/NHL debut logging 7:32 of total ice time playing on the 4th line with Dominic Moore and Tanner Glass. Hrivik recorded no shots on goal, 1 hit, 1 blocked shot and 1 giveaway vs Detroit.

Rick Nash was again scratched due to injury and is still listed by the Rngers as "week to week". Nash has not skated but has been working out off ice on his own.

The Rangers return to action tomorrow night in New Jersey vs division rivals New Jersey Devils. 4th place NJ (29-24-7) trail the 2nd place Rangers (34-19-6) in the Metropolitan Division Standings by 9 points.
