TONIGHT 7:00 PM NBCSN
Season series: The Detroit Red Wings won two of three games against the New York Rangers last season; each game was decided by one goal. Rick Nash (two goals) and Derick Brassard (one goal).each had three points for New York.

Rangers team scope: Defenseman Ryan McDonagh will not play; he has neck spasms and a jaw contusion following an elbow to the face from Toronto Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov on Thursday. McDonagh did not practice Saturday and will be replaced in the lineup by Dylan McIlrath. "[Ryan] seems to be doing OK, and we're all thankful for that," defenseman Marc Staal told Blueshirtsunited.com on Saturday. "I'm just happy that [he's] going to be OK." Nash, who has missed 11 games with a bone bruise, will not play and was downgraded to week-to-week. Forward Daniel Paille was placed on waivers, and the Rangers will recall a player from Hartford of the American Hockey League to take his place on the fourth line with Dominic Moore and Tanner Glass. "We've tried different players on that line and we're still looking for a combination to make us a more effective four-line team," coach Alain Vigneault said.
