Today in NYR History 12/21:


1948: Lynn Patrick is named the third head coach in Rangers history.


1958: The Rangers receive $7.5 cash, future considerations & loan of Ray Cyr from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Phil Maloney.


1964: The Rangers receive Bill Hicke & Loan of Jean-Guy Morissette for remainder of 1964-65 season from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Dick Duff and Dave McComb.


1992: The Rangers earned their first road shutout against the Devils in franchise history by defeating New Jersey, 3-0. 

John Vanbiesbrouck made 35 saves to earn the win and shutout, and Adam Graves tallied two points (one goal, one assist) in the contest, including the game-winning goal.


1996: Wayne Gretzky tallies three assists, and Luc Robitaille scores the game-winning goal in overtime as the Rangers defeat the Montreal Canadiens, 3-2.
