RANGERS VS JETS POST GAME WRAP UP 12/2

BLOWN LEAD ENDS BAD FOR BLUESHIRTS
Rangers Fall Apart in 3rd, Lose in Shootout 4-3

On a night of Legends at Madison Square Garden the Rangers turned what should have been a 3-0 win into a 4-3 loss in a shootout.

Although the Rangers were chasing the standout Winnipeg Jets who were clearly running rough shot over the Rangers, most of the time leading in shots on goal by more than double the Rangers figured out how to take a 3-0 lead heading into the 3rd period.

A first period goal by Jesper Fast  put the home team into the lead with just over 3 minutes remaining until intermission.

The Rangers would continue in the second period backed by tremendous goaltending by Henrik Lundqvist and add to their lead on goals from Marc Staal and Chris Kreider to take a 3-0 lead heading into the third period.

Unfortunately once again early period letdowns hit the Rangers hard, both Jets' Mark Scheifele and Jack Roslovic scored within a span of two minutes to bring Winnipeg within 1 goal just before 5 minutes into the the 3rd. The Rangers managed to hold on to the sparse 1 goal lead until Bryan Little tied the game with 2:30 left in regulation.

Tied 3-3 after 60 minutes the teams headed to overtime which turned into the Henrik Lundqvist show as he stopped all 8 shots he faced to take it to the shootout rounds. Mika Zibanejad was the only tally from the Rangers side to put it up 1-0 in the 2nd round. Both  Patrik Laine and then Mark Scheifele scored for Winnipeg after Jimmy Vesey had missed his 5th round attempt.

Lundqvist stopped 39 of 42 shots on goal in the loss, snapping his streak of 6 games won in a row at MSG. While the Rangers power play went 0 for 2 on the night the Penalty kill shut down Winnipeg's power play on all 4 attempts.

The Rangers are off for the next 6 days until they play again on Saturday, December 8 in Florida to take on the Panthers.
