NEW YORK RANGERS POST GAME REPORT, NOTES

Despite Nash's 400th and Buchnevich's 3 point night Rangers fall to Vancouver 5-3

Rick Nash scored his 400th career goal and Pavel Buchnevich scored his 3rd goal in 3 games and added two assists in the loss to Vancouver tonight.

A game where we saw Vancouver's defense slow down the Rangers and hold them to limited movement across the blue line carrying the puck wound up be decided by the NHL League Offices.

Rangers goaltender Antti Raanta was hit early in the 3rd period by Vancouver's Markus Grandlund who was called for goalie interference about four minutes later Raanta was pulled from the game to be checked for concussion after a call to  from the NHL offices. The prcautionary measures forced the Rangers to put in a cold Henrik Lundqvist who gave up 2 quick goals on 6 shots before Raanta returned to the game cleared of any injury. Raanta who was visibly upset about being pulled completed the game with 19 saves.

The game also saw rookie defenseman Brady Skjei pick up his 9th assist of the season and his 7th point in a 6 game point scoring streak.

Antti Raanta spoke on MSG after the Rangers loss to the Canucks and spoke about being taken off the ice in the middle of the third period:

On what happened, "it's the rule nowadays. You have to respect that. I fell down and they saw that I hit my head on the ice. That is one of those things that they are looking for. I knew when Rammer was watching me from the bench the entire time that their might be a goalie change and I have to do the test. That was pretty much it, tried to do it as quickly as possible and I felt good. Last year when I had the concussion I had way different symptoms so I knew that it would be fine. I tried to do it as quick as possible and come back to the game. It's not easy to leave like that."
You felt okay the whole time, "yea. Felt like I was in the game, it was a tight game and we got the PP from that and scored the tying goal and the game is wide open and then you have to go off for the testing. It was pretty tough. I just have to respect the process of what is going on and you just have to go and do the test and might be that they find something or not. Still a few things that I need to do but I feel good now."
On hurting the front and back of his head, "when I hit my mask on the ice it just felt like my mask was coming off. Just waiting for the ref to blow the play dead and Rammer came there and a tough way to come off the ice and lose the game but like I said, you just have to do what the league wants you to do with this kind of stuff."

NEXT GAME: The Rangers head on a West Coast Road Trip First Game Saturday in Calgary followed by Sunday in Edmonton and Vancover on Tuesday.

Earlier in the Day The Rangers traded Dylan McIlrath to Florida for Steven Kampfer and a 7th round conditional pick. The Rangers get a 2018 7th rounder from Florida if McIlrath plays in 30 NHL games this season.
The Rangers signed Kampfer two years ago before trading him to Florida so that the Rangers could have Anthony Duclair to start the season.

Jeff Gorton spoke with Amanda Borgias about the decision to trade Dylan McIlrath to Florida:

"It was a lot of things. Over a period of time we evaluate where we are at and where Dylan is at and what might be out there for him. It's an opportunity for him to go to another organization and get a second chance and play in the NHL. For us, it's a player that we liked and had in the organization for a brief time. We bring back Steven Kampfer and we really like his skating and think that he fits in better for us."
On Kampfer, "work ethic, skating, skill. He has a good blend of what we need on that right side. When you go through an 82 game schedule you are going to need more than 6 defensemen and we think that Steven, with his NHL experience, and some of the things he has done in the league can help us."
