NYR Alumni Birthdays February 15:

Bruce Bell D (1987-1988) Jaromir Jagr RW (2004-2007) Yony McKegney LW (1986-1987) Ronald Petrovicky RW (2002-2003) Chuck Scherza C (1943-1945)

Today in NYR History February 15:

1945: A late train from Detroit makes the New York Rangers two hours and 20 minutes late for their game against the Chicago Blackhawks at Madison Square Garden. Despite the delay and the long trip, the Rangers win 6-2 in a penalty-free game that begins at 10:50 p.m. and ends at 12:50 a.m.

1999: During the Rangers' first game in Nashville, Wayne Gretzky ties a franchise record with five assists in the team's 7-4 win over the Predators. The five-assist night moves him 1,000 points ahead of runner-up Gordie Howe in the all-time NHL scoring race, and it comes exactly 19 years after he ties an NHL single-game record by getting seven assists for the Edmonton Oilers in an 8-2 win against the Washington Capitals.

2000: Brian Leetch becomes the Rangers' all-time leading goal scorer among defensemen, passing Ron Greschner with his 180th goal.
