RANGERS DOWN JETS 3-1 IN WINNIPEG

VESEY SCORES GAME WINNER IN RETURN

A solid team effort by the Rnagers who battled back from an early 1-0 deficit to hand the Winnipeg Jets their second straight home loss. The Rangers looked to be in the hole when Tyler Myers blasted a shot past Henrik Lundqvist just 26 seconds into the opening period until Alain Vigneault called for the challenge. The goal was overturned by the officials upon review due to an offsides. But Winnipeg managed to strike first just under a minute later when Niles Ehlers shot from almost the exact same spot as Myers and past Lundqvist to take the lead 1-0.

Badly outskated and out shot the Rangers managed to salvage the period in the last minute when Mats Zuccarello tallied his ninth goal of the season to tie it 1-1. With the goal, Zuccarello picked up his 40th point and has now tallied 40 or more points in the last 5 seasons.

The second period was much better for the Rangers outshooting the Jets and getting in low for chances. Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck was able to hold off the barrage of 18 shots by New York while Lundqvist held off Winnipeg for a scoreless second.

The Rangers once again were under the gun in the third period with Winnipeg taking the play to the New York Zone for most of the period, holding them to 4 shots for the rest of the way. AIt took just over 16 minutes for the Rangers to take the lead when Jimmy Vesey who returned today from a concussion planted himself in front of Hellebuyck and had a shot from Brady Skjei deflect off his body and into the Winnipeg net for what would be the game winner. With 1:31 remaining the Jets pulled Hellebuyck for the extra attacker and scored what seemed to be the tying goal. The goal was immediately waived off by the referee and discussed. The Ruling on the ice was goalie interference and the call on the ice stood. With the goalie pulled and under a minute remaining in regulation, Michael Grabner added an empty net goal to seal the win for the Rangers.
