RANGERS FALL SHORT IN COMEBACK BID 3-2

GILMOUR AND PIONK PICK UP FIRST NHL POINTS IN LOSS

Three Minnesota first Period goals within just over three minutes had the Rangers chasing the Wild for the rest of the night. Eric Staal, Zach Paraise and Michael Foligno tallied goals within three minutes of a Rangers defensive meltdown, After eary drubbing the Rangers tightened up on defense and made a push. While on the power play John Gilmour fired a one timer off a pass from Tony DeAngelo to cut the lead 3-1 and send the Rangers to intermission just 2 goals down.

The Rangers poured it on in the second period with 18 shots on goal but were only able to take advantage once. Again on the power play the ice shifted to the Rangers end and Nel Pionk blocked a shot that sent Michael Grabner up ice and passing to Kevin Hayes for the goal and putting the Rangers within 1 of tying the game.

The Rangers could not put any pressure on the Wild in the third period and were held without a shot for more than the first 11 minutes of the period. Henrik Lundqvist who was almost pulled in the first period stopped 26 of the Wild's 29 shots.
