RANGERS VS FLAMES GAME DAY PREVIEW 2/9

RANGERS FACE FLAMES LOOKING TO SNAP FOUR GAME SKID

New York Rangers (25-24-5) vs Calgary Flames (23-18-8)
TONIGHT 7:00 PM TV: MSG+ RADIO: ESPN NY 98.7 FM
Madison Square Garden: New York City, NY

One Day after an eye opening experience when Jeff Gorton and Glen Sather all but announced the Rangers will be giving up on the postseason and start a rebuild New York will have to try and snap a four game losing skid tonight against the visiting Winnipeg Jets.

Amid rumors of top players being shopped around and other NHL teams inquiring about availability of players on the roster the Rangers place faltering defenseman Brendan Smith on waivers yesterday and called up prospect Neal Pionk from Hartford of the AHL. Pionk will make his Rangers and NHL debut most likely paired with Ryan McDonagh as he was in yesterday’s practice.

All but guarantee a rough road for the Rangers to handle with all the speculation of all personnel most likely not being safe as the Rangers look to get “younger”. Tonight players will either break or show their metal.

This is the first of two meetings between the Rangers and Flames this season and the only contest at Madison Square Garden.

Calgary currently sits in second place of the Pacific Division and is coming in on a three game winning streak. The Flames defeated the Devils last night in New Jersey 3-2. Johnny Gaudreau leads the team in points with 64 and in assists with 46,  Sean Monahan leads the team in goals with 27.
