RANGERS VS CANADIENS POST GAME WRAP UP 10/6

RANGERS COMEBACK DOWNS HABS 5-3

Pionk Goes Coast to Coast with Game Winner

Falling behind 3-1 in the second period after Chris Kreider had tied the game 1-1 in the first period the Rangers put on what has to be their best effort in the young season to score 4 unanswered goals to defeat the visiting Montreal Canadiens 5-3 at MSG.

Goals by Tony DeAngelo 3/4 through the second and third period tallies from Pavel Buchnevich, Neal Pionk and a short hand goal from Mika Zibanejad put the Rangers ahead for good. Of the Blueshirts 5 goals none stood out more than when defenseman Neal Pionk took the puck from behind the Rangers net and set his sights down ice beating Montreal's forwards and defenders to put his coast to coast effort past Carey Price for the go ahead and what would be the game winner with just under 3 minutes to play in the third. Zibanejad's short hand tally would put the Rangers ahead for good and cap off the win.

Kevin Hayes was a work horse for the Rangers tonight picking up tow primary and 1 secondary assist for 3 points, Zibanejad and Kreider each added an assist for two pints each on the night. In all, 9 different Rangers picked up a point in the win.

Henrik Lundqvist edged out his rival Carey Price stopping 31 of Montreal's 34 shots on net for the Win.

The penalty kill for the Rangers were a strong point tonight stopping 5 of the Habs' 6 man advantages. The Rangers power play still struggles going 0-6 on the night.

With the win the Rangers moved into the 500 club, now with a record of 7-7-1 and 15 points in the standings.

The Rangers are off until Friday when they travel to Detroit to face the Red Wings in the first of a back to back weekend ending Saturday in Columbus to face the Blue Jackets.
