RANGERS FALL IN OVERTIME TO WINGS 3-2

Blueshirts Blow 2  Goal Lead in Third Period

Finally the Rangers saw their power play pay off for the first time i the last 3 games scoring 2 goals on 3 man advantages. After a scoreless first period and for most of the second period the Rangers struck within the final 4 minutes scoring two power play goals while Detroit's Jacob De La Rose was off for a double minor high sticking penalty after he drew blood from Rangers' Kevin Hayes.

For the second game in a row the Rangers scored goals within one minute of play first from Kevin Shattenkirk and then from rookie D-Man Neal Pionk. But the lead would not hold when the Rangers old habits made an appearance. First early within the first two minutes of the third period the Rangers once again gave up an early goal to Detroit's Justin Abdelkader to start off and then again give up the tying goal within the last 3 minutes to Andreas Athanasiou to take the game to yet another overtime period.

The Rangers and Wings exchanged chances in the 3 on 3 overtime but the Red Wings prevailed with just 6 ticks left on the clock when Dylan Larkin scored, giving Detroit it's 3rd unanswered goal of the game for the win.

Both Henrik Lundqvist and Jimmy Howard played excellent tonight and exchanged many spectacular saves one after the other. Both goaltenders finished the game with 28 saves each.
