RANGERS VS ISLANDERS POST GAME WRAP UP 11/15

RANGERS FALL TO ISLANDERS 7-5
"Barclays Curse" Continues to 7th Straight Loss in Venue

Things looked to be on the Rangers side last night as the Rangers took a 2-0 lead just over 5 minutes into the first period. The Rangers once again tallied two goals in a span of one minute or less for the fourth time in the last six games. A power play goal from Chris Kreider (his team leading 9th of the season) and Freddie Claesson's first as a Ranger put the Blueshirts ahead 2-0 just under 6 minutes into the opening period.

The Rangers would hold the lead for exactly 4 minutes when Anthony Beauvillier scored the first of his 3 on the night to cut the lead in half, the Isles would add the tying goal in just a minute of their own from Brock Nelson to eventually take the tie to intermission.

Beauvillier would open the scoring early in the second to put the Islanders ahead 3-2 but Kevin Hayes would bring the game even 3-3 when he scored on a short handed opprotunity on Islanders Thomas Greiss. Beayvillier would tally the heat trick to put the home team ahead for good and Anders Lee would add a goal to bring it to an Islanders 5-3 lead before the end of the period.

The Rangers would make a comeback effort in the third with goals from Chris Kreider, his 10th and Filip Chytil, his second in two games to bring the Blueshirts within 1 goal 6-5. But with time winding down the Rangers chose to pull Alexandar Georgiev for the extra skater and the Isles would cap off the night when  Cal Clutterbuck scored into the empty net to make it 7-5.

Henrik Lundqvist who started the game was victim of 5 goals, 4 of which were deflections in front. Georgiev who replaced Lundqvist in the third picked up his first career assist on Kreider's 10th of the season picking up the secondary assist.

Chris Kreider leads the Rangers in goals (ten) and power play goals (four) this season. In addition, Kreider has recorded nine of his ten goals in 2018-19 on the road. Kreider's 10 goals within the first 19 games of a season for the first time in his NHL career.

Brett Howden has recorded a point in 10 of 18 career NHL games (four goals, seven assists), including seven of 10 road games(two goals, six assists). He currently leads NHL rookies in assists and is tied for first among NHL rookies in points (eight) on the road in 2018-19.
