RANGERS VS DEVILS POST GAME WRAP UP 12/21

RANGERS FALL TO DEVILS IN SHOOTOUT 4-3

Despite a 45 save performance by Henrik Lundqvist the Rangers could not get a handle on putting together a full 60 minutes of hockey and dropped an important game to New Jersey. Although the Rangers picked up a point in the loss the two points for the win would have put thempast New Jersey in the standings.

A horrible start to the first period and pretty much a absentee second period doomed the Rangers tonight in a game where they were down by one and came from behind in the first period to take a 2-1 lead to the locker room on goals by Jimmy Vesey and Nick Holden.

New Jersey ran roughshot over the Rangers in the second period battering Henrik Lundqvist with shots but only managed to score a shorthanded goal to tie the game 2-2. The Rangers would retake the lead 3-2 in the third period on aa gol by Kevin Hayes until Chris Kreider took an elbowing penalty that led to former Ranger Brian Boyle's game tying goal on the power play which would eventually send the game to overtime.

A run and gun overtime ended with the Rangers on the power play but New york could only muster one shot on goal during the minute plus advantage sending the game to the shootout.

The Rangers could only pick up one goal in the shootout from Mika Zibanejad while Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Shattenkirk both were stopped by Cory Schneider. Kyle Pamieri and Brian Boyle scored for New Jersey to give the Devils the win 4-3.
