RANGERS LOOK TO REBOUND AGAINST HURRICANES
New York Rangers (13-10-2) vs Carolina Hurricanes (10-8-5)
TONIGHT 7:00 PM, TV: MSG RADIO: WEPN 98.7
Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
After a rough end of November for the Rangers having lost at home 5-4 to the Florida Panthers along with losing number one center and leading scorer Mika Zibanejad to a concussion, the Rangers will look to gain some momentum in their first game of December.
Losing Zibanejad will be crushing to the Rangers offensive corps especially on the power play where now only Kevin Shattenkirk will be the right handed threat. David Desharnais will remain in the lineup taking Zibanejad’s place between Chris Kreider and Pavel Buchnevich. The line put up 7 total points in the loss to Florida with Kreider posting 2 goals and Buchnevich adding one of his own.
Ryan McDonagh who has missed the four previous games with an abdominal strain looks to be set to return to the lineup tonight. McDonagh participated in his first full practice yesterday since being out and was paired with Nick Holden.
Henrik Lundqvist is slated to start for the Rangers after being pulled in the first period of Saturday’s loss to Florida. Lundqvist faced 6 shots on goal in the contest giving up 3 goals.
This is the 2nd of 4 meetings between the two teams and the first at MSG. The Rangers soundly defeated Carolina in the series opener 6-1 in Raleigh. Chris Kreider and Jesper Fast tallied two goals, Mika Zibanejad and Paul Carey also added a goal each in the contest. Kreider opened the first period scoring just 52 seconds in and also picked up his 2nd goal just 20 seconds into the third period. Henrik Lundqvist picked up the win stopping 30 of 31 shots on goal.
