RANGERS FALL IN SHOOTOUT TO STARS 2-1
Despite a 44 save performance in net, Ondrej Pavelec could not get the support from his teammates to get the win.
Outshot miserably the entire game it looked as though the Garden Ice was tilted towards the Rangers end. New York could only tally 10 shots on goal by the end of the second period and gave up 33 by that point.
The only regulation goal given up by Pavelec was to Julius Honka in the second period shortly after the Rangers had killed off back to back Dallas Power Plays.
The Rangers who finally came alive in the third period were able to tie the game on a goal by Rick Nash with under four minutes to play to send the game to overtime.
An exciting but scoreless overtime sent the game to the shootout where Dallas was able to beat the Rangers 2-1 when Jason Spezza broke the 1-1 shootout tie putting one past Pavelec for the Dallas win.
The lone shootout goal for the Rangers was scored by Mats Zuccarello in the first round. Both David Desharnais and Kevin Shattenkirk were stopped by Kari Lehtonen in the second and third round attempts.
