Kevin Shattenkirk to have Knee Surgery

OFFICIAL: Rangers defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has a meniscus tear in his knee and will undergo surgery. Shattenkirk will be sidelined indefinitely.

Shattenkirk said he's been dealing with the knee injury since late September and into October. He said he tried to play through it but felt he's "come to a point now ... [that] it's the right time to get the surgery."

"It's tough. I think thinking about this year, you want everything to go perfectly. I think I've been trying to battle through this for a lot of reasons and when it came down to it ... you have to think about yourself."

"I think this is the first step to get back to where I am and come back and have a meaningful impact on this team down the stretch."

Shattenkirk will undergo surgery on Monday.

On other injuries Alain Vigneault said Kevin Hayes and Marc Staal will travel and skate prior to tomorrow's game in Colorado, and both are 50/50 for Sunday's game in Los Angeles.

Defenseman Tony DeAngelo was recalled from Hartford and practiced with the team today.
