RANGERS VS GOLDEN KNIGHTS POST GAME WRAP UP 1/8

RANGERS FALL IN VEGAS 2-1

Despite a 32 save performance by Ondrej Pavelec the Rangers could not overcome a turnover by Paul Carey in the first period that lead to a Vegas goal from James Neal and a missed defensive assignment in the third leading to the Golden Knights winning goal from William Karlsson.

Mika Zibanejad opened the scoring with a laser shot just inside the blueline and over the glove of Marc Andre Fleury for the only Rangers goal of the game.

Both Pavelec and Fleury were outstanding in net for their respective teams but the Rangers just couldn't convert on chances including a Vinni Lettieri breakaway that he missed wide on the backhand along with 2 power play chances.

The Rangers lost center Kevin Hayes in the first period after a hard hit and bump. Hayes tried to return at one point but left for the locker room and did not return. Hayes was said to be being evaluated for a lower body injury.

The Rangers who moved back into 4th place in the Metropolitan Division after Columbus won their game today remain ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins by one point in the last wild card spot in the East. TYhe Rangers now head into their bye week and will return to action on Saturday Janaury 13th facing the Islanders in an afternoon matinee.
