RANGERS LOOK TO REBOUND AGAINST FLYERS
New York Rangers (22-17-5) vs Philadelphia Flyers (20-15-8)
TONIGHT 7:00 PM TV: MSG, NBCSN RADIO: WEPN 98.7 FM
Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY
The Rangers face the Philadelphia Flyers tonight looking to get back in the playoff hunt after dropping out of the wild card race. They now trail the Islanders who won last night in overtime against the Montreal by one point for the last wild card position and two behind Pittsburgh. It’s a must win for the Rangers who lost to both the Isles and Pens in the two previous games as the Metro Division gets tighter and tighter with both Philadelphia and Carolina trailing them by one point. Only eleven points seperate the first place Capitals and last place Hurricanes with just less than half the season remaining.
While the Rangers have not picked up a regulation win in their last ten games and have lost 4 of their last five, they face Philly at what could be bad timing as the Flyers have been surging as of late winning four straight games in their last five contests.
This is the first of four meetings between the Rangers and Philadelphia for the 2017-2018 season. The last time the teams had met was during the preseason splitting the two games 3-2 in favor of New York and 4-2 in favor of Philly.
The Rangers who were without Captain Ryan McDonagh (unspecified injury) and Kevin Hayes (contusion) in Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh did not practice yesterday. No lineup or starting goaltender has yet to be announced but all signs would point to Henrik Lundqvist who stopped 43 shots on Sunday getting the nod in the division showdown.
