The Rangers tried to shake things up tonight starting recently recalled Tanner Glass and Steven Kampfer in place of Matt Puempel and Adam Clendening. For the most part it worked in the first period with Glass wasting no time and getting into a scrum with Tampa's Witowski just over 6 minutes into the period. Both teams played hard nosed hockey in a penalty filled game and were scoreless after two periods. Goaltenders, Raanta 25 saves for the Rangers and Vasileskey 24 saves for Tampa were flawless heading into the third period.
The goaltending battle continued into the third period with Raanta coming up big for the Rangers early on, keeping the game tied 0-0. The Lightning came out stronger in the third collecting ten shots on goal to the Rangers two within the first ten minutes of the period. The battle contimued through regulation and into the four on four overtime where the Rangers' Mika Zibanejad finally cashed in with the game winner with just over a minute remaining.
Antti Raanta finished the game with 38 saves on the night for the Rangers.
No time off for the Rangers as they ahead across state to Sunrise, Florida to take on the Florida Panthers tomorrow at 7:30 PM.
