Down Henrik Lundqvist and Rick Nash to start the game, an old friend returned to the Rangers lineup tonight in Raleigh...their power play. Scoring only one in their last thirty five attempts the Rangers finally broke the ice going 3 for 6 with two goals by Mika Zibanejad and one by Chris Kreider.
Carolina on the other hand were able to score two even strength and two power play goals to take the win 4-3.
The Canes' first power play goal was tainted as it seemed as though Rangers goaltender Antti Ranta was interfered with before the shot on goal was taken. Raanta who appeared to be still in the blue paint was elbowed in the head by the Canes' Lindholm. The Rangers used their coach's challenge but the call came back from Toronto that the goal was good. The call was explained to the Rangers that Raanta was outside of the blue paint and caused the interaction between himself and Lindholm. The Rangers and Raanta continued to argue the call to no avail.
The Rangers and Carolina split the season series two wins each. Both wins came on home ice.
The Rangers return to action on Sunday visiting the Detroit Red Wings. This will be the Rangers last appearance at "The Joe" as it will close at the end of the season.
