Today in NYR History November 16:


1926:The Rangers defeat the Montreal Maroons, 1-0, in the first game in franchise history. The first captain of the Blueshirts, Bill Cook, scores the lone goal of the contest.


1967: The Rangers play their first game in Philadelphia, falling to the Flyers, 3-2.


1993: In the Rangers’ first contest with the Florida Panthers, the Blueshirts come away with a 4-2 victory. Brian Leetch records a goal and an assist in the victory.


2003: Mark Messier records the last shorthanded goal of his career and his 23rd as a Ranger, the most of any Blueshirt. Messier adds an assist in the contest, a 2-2 tie with the Chicago Blackhawks.
