RANGERS VS PANTHERS POST GAME WRAP UP 11/4

SHATTENKIRK, DEFENSE LEADS RANGERS PAST PANTHERS IN OT

2 goals from Rangers Kevin Shattenkirk and a combined 3 goals and 4 points on the night by Rangers defensemen gave the Rangers the 5-4 overtime win in Sunrise over the Florida Panthers.

A scoreless first period turned into a back and forth battle during the second and third periods. Trailing by 1 the Rangers tied the game when Nick Holden put one past Roberto Luongo for his first of the season. Down 2-1, Shattenkirk scored his first of the game to send it to the locker room tied 2-2.

In the third period Michael Grabner Put the Rangers ahead 3-2 until former Ranger Keith Yandle tied the game at 3. Rick Nash put the Rangers in the lead 4-3 on the power play before the halfway mark of the period and then Florida after pulling Luongo for the extra skater were able to tie the game 4-4 when Vincent Trocheck scored with 1:56 left in regulation to send it to overtime.

Shattenkirk in on a 2 on none with Rick Nash took the feed and put the game winner past Luongo just 1:08 into the overtime period.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 30 of 34 shots on goal while the Rangers put 5 goals past Luongo on 44 shots.

This is the second overtime win of the week for the Rangers and also the first win of the season when trailing after the first goal. Completing the Florida Road Trip Sweep the Rangers have now won 3 in a row including the win over Vegas at MSG. New York now heads home to face the Blue Jackets on Monday.
