Today in NYR History October 9:


1952: Gump Worsley makes his Rangers debut against the Detroit Red Wings.


1974: The Rangers play the Washington Capitals for the first time, and come away with a 6-3 victory at MSG.


1986: Ron Greschner becomes the 20th captain in Rangers history.


1991: Kris King and James Patrick score four seconds apart in a 5-3 Rangers win over the Islanders at MSG. It is the quickest time between two Rangers goals in franchise history.


2010: Derek Stepan records a hat trick in his NHL debut, becoming just the fourth player to do so, in a 6-3 Rangers victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
