RANGERS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN SHOOTOUT
Down 3-1 coming into the 3rd period the Rangers were able to rack up 2 goals to send the game to overtime and the shootout.
Goals by David Desharnais, Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes matched the Islanders 3 goal scorers Anders Lee, Brock Nelson and Martin Barzal in regulation but could not match the game winner in the shootout by John Tavares.
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 35 of 38 shots on goal and was one of the main reasons the Rangers even made it to overtime, making some spectacular saves when needed. The Rangers managed 3 goals on 41 shots on net against Jaroslav Halak.
The Rangers picked up a point in the shootout loss bringing their record to 1-5-2 with 4 points but still remaining at the bottom of the Metro Division in 8th place.
