RANGERS vs CANADIENS POST GAME WRAP UP 10/8

LUNDQVIST BLANKS HABS FOR FIRST RANGERS WIN

Coming into tonight’s game both Henrik Lundqvist and Montreal’s Carey Price had a combined 9 goals against in their last 40 minutes of play before both were pulled from their respective games the night earlier. Both came in looking for redemption but Henrik Lundqvist came out on top stopping 34 shots on goal for his 62nd career shutout and his 3rd against the Canadiens. Lundqvist now moves into sole posession of 16th place on the all time shutout list.

Lundqvist survived a rough first period where two Montreal goals by Andrew Shaw and Shea Weber were overturned due to goaltender interference. Montreal controlled most of the forecheck against the Rangers early in each of the three periods but the Rangers defense held strong.

Brady Skjei was able to put the Rangers ahead 1-0 for good in the first period when his shot deflected off the boot of Montreal’s Shea Weber and past Carey Price at 17:25 of the period. The Rangers held the 1 goal lead until the third period when Mika Zibanejad picked up his 4th goal of the season in 3 games with under 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

With both rookie Filip Chytil and defenseman Brendan Smith both scratched tonight, Alain Vigneault went with 7 D-Men inserting Nick Holden and Steven Kampfer. Both played solid games for the Rangers.

The Rangers return to action on Tuesday when they host the St Louis Blues at the Garden.
