RANGERS COMEBACK BID FALLS SHORT IN THIRD

The 4 point effort on the part of Mats Zuccarello (1G, 3A), a goaltending change and a shakeup to both the defense pairings and offensive lines just wasn’t enough to overcome the high flying Toronto Maple Leafs in an 8-5 losing battle.

Toronto who now has scored 15 goals in their first two games of the season were just too much for the Rangers who mounted a comeback from a 5-1 deficit scoring 4 unanswered goals to take it tied 5-5 in the third period.

J.T. Miller opened the Rangers scoring while both Mika Zibanejad (his 3rd) and Kevin Shattenkirk tallied Power Play Goals. Marc Staal scored the Rangers 4th goal when he tipped in a shot in front off aa Mats Zuccarello shot. Zuccarello’s goal came when he in return tipped in a shot by Marc Staal to tie the game at 5.

Three goals in the third by Toronto put the brakes on any hopes of a win for the Rangers. The game saw Henrik Lundqvist chased from net after the first period giving up 5 goals on 17 shots. Back Up Ondrej Pavelec faired slightly better allowing 3 goals on 24 shots on net.

The Rangers return home to face the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow night.
