Both the Rangers and Devils are coming off losses in their first games of a back to back weekend. The Rangers dropped to 1-4 in a disappointing 3-1 road loss to the Blue Jackets on Friday while their division rivals New Jersey lost their first game of the season to Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals 5-2 at home.
New York is led by points leader Mika Zibanejad, 4 goals, 5 points and assists leader Mats Zuccarello, 4 assists. They will face off against New Jersey’s rookie tandem of Jesper Bratt, 3 goals, 6 points and Will Butcher, 3 assists.
Both backups, Rangers Ondrej Pavelec and Devils Keith Kinkaid are expected to get the starts tonight in net with Henrik Lundqvist and Cory Schneider going the full 60 minutes in last night’s contests.
What the rest of the Rangers lineup will look like after last night’s performance will most likely be decided shortly before puck drop by coach Alain Vigneault.
This is the first meeting of six between the two teams this season.
