Today in NYR History 10/18


1926: The Rangers purchase the contracts of Bill Cook and Fred “Bun” Cook from Saskatoon of the WHL.


1928: Rangers acquire John Ross Roach from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Lorne Chabot. 


1952: Harry Howell makes his NHL debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs.


1979: Phil Esposito of the New York Rangers scores three goals for the 32nd (and final) hat trick of his NHL career. He assists on two other goals for a five-point night in a 6-3 victory against the Vancouver Canucks at Madison Square Garden. The 32 hat tricks are an NHL record at the time, and Esposito is still fifth on the all-time list.


2007: Dan Girardi scores his first NHL goal, a power play tally against the Atlanta Thrashers at Atlanta.
