RANGERS VS DEVILS POST GAME WRAP UP 10/14

RANGERS DROP TO 1-5 WITH 3-2 LOSS TO NEW JERSEY

Inconsistent play, miss timed penalties and turnovers once again cost the Rangers in their fifth loss of the season. Garnering the same record as the 1980 NY Rangers losing 5 of their first 6 games.

The Rangers came out strong in the first period outshooting the Devils 14-3. The Rangers looked strong on the forecheck and were firing any chance they had at the New Jersey netminder Kinkaid.

In the second period the Rangers took the lead when Rick Nash who did play hard all game scored his first of the season but fell behind 2-1 going into intermission.

New Jersey dominated the third period holding the Rangers to limited shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of play. The Devils extended their lead when returning Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo took a cross checking penalty while the teams were skating 4 on 4 with Chris Kreider and Kyle Palmeiri already in the penalty box to start the period.

DeAngelo’s penalty led to a New Jersey Power Play and the game’s deciding goal just 20 seconds into the man advantage while skating 4 on 3.

The Rangers tried to come back but it was a little to little, a little too late when Kevin Shattenkirk score the Rangers second goal with under a minute to go while the Rangers had pulled Ondrej Pavelec for the extra skater.

Jesper Fast returned to the Rangers lineup for his first game since hip surgery during the offseason and played exceptionally well, skating hard and setting up some scoring chances for New York.

The Rangers are off until Tuesday when they host the reigning Stanley Cup Champions at MSG.
